Worship Committee

Altar Committee

  1. Insure that the chancel is ready for worship, such as candles, paraments, etc.

  2. Coordinate church, chancel decorations and altar flowers to enhance the worship setting.

  3. Maintain and set up yearly flower chart.

  4. Decorate the chancel area for Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.

  5. Supervise in the care, use and maintenance of sacred vessels, the altar furnishings and vestments.

  6. Maintain an adequate supply of expendable items for worship, such as communion cards, pencils, wine and bread, baptismal napkins, candles, etc.

Audio/Visual System

  1. Record services

  2. Schedule and train audio/visual operators to assure adequate number.

  3. Provide guidelines for the audio/visual system operators.

Lay People

  1. Help create a warm worship atmosphere.

  2. Establish schedules, guidelines and training for the people in the following areas; greeters, lay readers, lay assistants and communion assistants.

  3. Bulletin folders.

Music

  1. Promote music programs such as adult choir, youth choir, cantata choirs, etc.

  2. Coordinate musicians, instrumentalists, singers as necessary.

  3. Coordinate with the Pastor, the hymns for the worship service.

  4. Enlist volunteer musicians (accompanist, instrumentalists, etc.)

  5. Coordinate with choir directors and organist special music/anthems.

Ushers

  1. Recruit and schedule usher team members.

  2. Designate a lead usher for each team.

  3. Review and update usher duties and responsibilities as needed.

Worship Service/Special Events

  1. Play an active role in planning of regular worship services and special meetings such as Lent, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. in conjunctions with the Pastors.

  2. Coordinate with the Music Committee instrumentalists and singers as needed.

  3. Explore new types and forms of worship.

  4. Publicize with the publicity person all services and special services.

  5. Arrange for special speakers as necessary, coordinate with council and pastor for supply pastors.

  6. Maintain a staffed nursery when appropriate.
