ANNOUNCEMENTS:

2018 MEAL PACKING EVENT:  On March 3, 2018, Prince of Peace will again partner with Illini Fighting Hunger (illinifightinghunger.org) to pack over 60,000 meals to be distributed to the Eastern Illinois Food Bank.  Please mark your calendars and plan for your family to attend this fun and meaningful event!  Sign-up sheets are posted in the narthex and on the bulletin boards outside the office and the East Fellowship Hall where you can sign up for one- or two-hour shifts packing food between 9am-1pm, setting up Friday night, and cleaning up at the end of the packing event.  There is also a sheet to sign up to bring baked goods, fruit, and water for the workers.  Together our congregation has raised over $9,000 for this event, which means we'll be able to pack more meals than ever before! Thank you for helping to feed the hungry in our community!

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL IN FEBRUARY:  GREAT FIGURES OF THE NEW TESTAMENT
Our adult Sunday education class meets every week in the main sanctuary at 10:30 a.m.  Bring your coffee and donuts and join the discussion!  Pastor Donna Smith will be leading classes in February centering around Great Figures of the New Testament.  The schedule for February is as follows:

February 25:   The Good Samaritan and the Prodigal Son
Figures in parables often become more “real” to us than historical figures! We will consider how Luke’s audience might have viewed these characters, then discuss how the church has traditionally interpreted them, and, finally, later theological and literary readings of the Samaritan and the Prodigal.

WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY – LOVE RULES; A STUDY OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS BY CHRISTINA HERGENRADER.  Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm
“What do the Ten Commandments do for you? Do they send you on a guilt trip? Are they a mirror of your frailties? Or do they hold life-changing love? The miracle of the Commandments is that even after thousands of years, they still hold everything we need to live in relationship with God and with one another.
The forty short chapters in Love Rules are shards of real, gritty life. In this women's Bible study, you will see yourself and how pride, insecurity, grudges, and coveting damage relationships. Love Rules tells the story of spiritual transformation, shows how God wants us to love better, and helps us see how we can. This Bible study addresses one commandment each week, then follows up with four devotions that approach the topic from different angles.”
The study runs through March 6th, so join at any time!  No homework. Interesting conversation. And, chocolate.  Bring a friend!  Questions?  Contact Melissa Idleman.

THURSDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY IN FEBRUARY-MARCH
Everyone is encouraged to attend our Thursday night bible classes; you can jump in any time!  The reading assignments are short, which allows us to dig into some particular passages each week.  In January-March, we will concentrate on the Gospel of Mark, which we will be hearing from often at our worship services this year.  No prior bible study experience is expected of participants.  We meet at 6:30 p.m. in the newly renovated Sunday School room.  Our discussion schedule for January-February is as follows:

February 22:  Mark 9-10
March 1:  Mark 11-12
March 8:  Mark 13-14
March 15:  Mark 15-16

THE SAINT JOSEPH FOOD PANTRY NEEDS OUR HELP!

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GATHERINGS take place in the youth room every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.  Check the "Youth" page for updates!

KIDSZONE SUNDAY CLASSES IN FEBRUARY: “WINTER GAMES”  Our Sunday School curriculum in February will have a fun “Winter Olympics” flavor.  All youths aged pre-K through 6th grade meet in the West Fellowship Hall after worship.  After singing together, the children break into separate groups for the rest of class.  Parents, please pick your children up at 11:15 in their separate classrooms!

“EAT, PRAY, CARDS” FEBRUARY SCHEDULE
In February, our “Eat, Pray, Cards” group will meet twice, on Wednesday February 7th, and Wednesday February 21st.   All are invited to come!  We meet in the newly revamped Sunday School room for a light brunch, a brief devotion led by Pastor Seth, and a highly competitive round of cards.  We start at 10:00 a.m.  Hope to see you there!

CONFIRMATION STUDENTS: Our 7th-8th grade students meet for class every Sunday after worship at 10:30 in the East Fellowship Hall.  Confirmation students also come to church right after school each Wednesday from 3-5 with friends for fun, fellowship, and service activities.

WOMEN'S COFFEE AND PRAYER:
Need a midweek dose of powerful prayer?  How about support from other women who are ready to listen?  All women are invited to Geschenk Coffee and Tea Haus, 228 East Lincoln, in St. Joseph, on Wednesdays at 7:00 a.m.  Each week we'll hear a word of scripture, pray together and inspire one another for a new day--all while sharing delicious morning coffee or tea--and you'll still be in time for work or school!  See you there!

COMING IN APRIL:  COMPASSION SUNDAY
Compassion International is a Christian humanitarian aid child sponsorship organization dedicated to the long-term development of children living in poverty around the world.  In April, at one of our church services (date to be determined), we will be introducing the ministry of Compassion International to the congregation and presenting a special opportunity for Prince of Peace Members to get involved in child sponsorship.  Kalee Bensyl, the daughter of our Lori, our church secretary, will be with us that day to talk about her experience of actually meeting the child whom she is sponsoring while on a trip to Africa this past summer.  If you would like to know more about Compassion International, click HERE .  We are excited to introduce this beautiful Christian service opportunity to the people of Prince of Peace.
