Welcome to our Prince of Peace website!

If you are searching for a church home in the Champaign-Urbana area, here is some quick information about us:

We are a congregation of about 700 members, located in Saint Joseph, Illinois. Saint Joseph is a bedroom community to Champaign-Urbana, located ten miles east of the cities.

Prince of Peace is an enthusiastic member of the new North American Church, whose website you can visit at thenalc.org.

As Lutherans, we believe that the Church exists wherever the Word of God is preached in its purity and the sacraments are shared faithfully, regardless of denominational titles.

In our preaching and teaching, we hold to the biblical view that all people are sinners in need of God’s forgiveness.  We do not put our trust in our ability to find God on our own or fix our relationship with him.  Rather, we put all our hope in the person of Jesus, who through his incarnation, life, death, and resurrection has set us free to live life joyfully, gratefully, and confidently, in service to God and neighbor.

If you are concerned about “fitting in” at a new church, we’re pretty confident you will feel welcome at Prince of Peace.  Being in a growing bedroom community to a larger town, we are open and very used to welcoming new people into our congregation.  At the same time, our small-town roots give our congregation a sense of stability, and a loyal membership base.

If you visit, you will notice quickly that we have lots of young families involved at Prince of Peace.  We strive to give the children of our congregation a strong education in the bible, and help them develop a lasting connection to God’s people.  Our youth activities are Christ-centered, fun, and frequent.

Our worship style is traditional Lutheran, which means that the theme and mood for each worship service is biblically-driven, and not limited to any particular style, time-period or mood when it comes to music.  The music will always be substantive and will fit the message of the day.  You will hear a thoughtfully-prepared sermon, give praise and thanks to God, pray, hear that your sins are forgiven, and twice a month, participate in Holy Communion.  The goal of our worship style has always been to help people transcend their daily, subjective concerns and unite with a bigger reality:  our awesome God!

Our congregation is also constantly involved in charitable and mission activities beyond the congregation, locally and throughout the world.

If you have any questions about Prince of Peace, do not hesitate to contact us at the phone numbers and email addresses listed on this site.

We would love for you to come and worship God with us!
